If you’ve ever studied herbal medicine, some of the first names you’d come across are turmeric and ginger. These ingredients have several health benefits and have been used for centuries for ailment purposes. These ailments include pain relief, migraines, fatigue, and other infections.

As such, people consumed them in the form of herbal tea over the years.

To delve into this deeper, we explain some of the many benefits of turmeric and ginger in detail. So, read on ahead!

    What are Turmeric and Ginger?

Turmeric and ginger are widely used for natural healing solutions and herbal tea.

The origins of ginger go back to southeast Asia, where it’s used as medicine and spice. You might be wondering why it’s used as a medicine. This is because there are certain phenolic chemicals in ginger, such as gingerol, which have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Turmeric is also from the same plant family as ginger. Although it is mainly used as a spice in Indian food, it is also often consumed as medicine, for it consists of a chemical called curcumin that helps treat chronic diseases.

    Consuming Just the Right Amount

The most important thing to keep in mind is the consumption quantity. These ingredients are only helpful if you take them in portions. Too much of either ingredient can lead to adverse side effects such as headaches.

But if consumed in the right proportion, ginger and turmeric are a much better alternative to medicines.

Both of them can be used separately. However, when used together in medicine, and other foods, they offer many more benefits. Let’s take a look at some of them.

    1. Relieves Pain

It has been proven that ginger and turmeric are excellent for relieving pain. Both of them have active healing ingredients that work wonders with pain.

    • Curcumin: It helps reduce arthritis pain. Taking a significant amount of curcumin can reduce pain faster than placebo pills or regular medication.
    • Ginger: Similarly, ginger too can help reduce chronic illness related to arthritis. It can also reduce menstrual as well as severe post-exercise pains.

    2. Rich in Anti-Oxidant

Both ginger and turmeric are great protectives. Turmeric having 7 times more anti-oxidant properties than ginger, can help prevent heart disease and cancer when paired with the latter.

    3. Soothes Your Stomach

If you’ve had an upset stomach before, chances are you took ginger to cure your nausea on someone’s advice.

This is because gingerol, the anti-oxidant compound in ginger, interacts with the serotine in your brain. When this communication is made, it signals your brain to relieve the discomfort. This can be even more effective when paired with turmeric.

    4. Reduces Inflammation

Inflammation is one of the main causes of many diseases such as diabetes, heart problems, and more. Both turmeric and ginger have properties that reduce inflammation to a great extent. Medicines like ibuprofen and aspirin that treat inflammation hence consist of turmeric.

    Final Words

Ginger and turmeric thus can help alleviate the pains. This also includes pregnancy pains and the discomfort faced with chemotherapy.

Additionally, let’s not forget that turmeric and ginger can be delicious in foods! You can add them to cupcakes or herbal tea to make them healthy and yummy.

However, remember to take them in moderation. Too much of anything can be damaging to your health!
