Here’s why you need a lawyer for your Utah divorce

Filing for divorce is always complicated. Even if you are on amicable terms with your spouse, ending a marriage can cause emotional stress and trauma. Also, a divorce is not just about a change in marital status. It can impact your financial, social, and personal life in more ways than one. That said, divorce is a hard eventuality for some couples.  In Utah, you can file for a no-fault divorce, where you don’t accuse your spouse of any wrongdoing. If your spouse agrees to the decision, the divorce can be finalized in months. So, why would you want to hire a Sandy divorce attorney? Here’s what you need to know.

    Protecting your rights and interests

Utah allows for equitable distribution of marital assets in a divorce, which doesn’t always mean equal. If you have been a stay-at-home spouse and parent, you may be entitled to alimony, which is not the same as child support. In short, you have your rights as a spouse, and your attorney can protect your rights in the divorce proceedings. Your lawyer can also offer advice on handling your circumstances better, so that you can end the marriage without a bad outcome.

    Negotiating with your spouse

Warring spouses often argue on silly matters during the course of divorce. There are also important matters, such as child support, child custody, alimony, distribution of assets & debts, which must be discussed. If you are not on talking terms with your spouse, or don’t expect them to cooperate on these points, consider hiring an attorney. Divorce attorneys are great at mediation, and they can actually speed up the proceedings, by negotiating with your spouse and their lawyer.

    Reduce the stress

When you have a divorce attorney looking into the paperwork and proceedings, you don’t have much to worry about. Paperwork, often, is the most complex aspect of divorces, and a good lawyer can manage that burden. In addition, you can expect your lawyer to offer advice on aspects that may impact the outcome. For instance, your lawyer may advise against having an affair, or posting anything nasty about your spouse on social media. Your lawyer isn’t your best friend, but they can actually ease the pressure that can be hard otherwise.

Most attorneys charge an hourly rate for family law and divorce matters, but it depends on the work involved. Talk to an attorney, to know how quickly and cost-effectively you can finalize your divorce.
