    The Popularity of Gluten-free Diet: Is it Justified?

    A gluten-free diet has become a prerequisite for healthy eating these days. In Australia, about one percent of the population has an allergy to gluten that causes intestinal damage, also known as Coeliac disease, for which strict adherence to a gluten-free diet is the only solution.     Gluten is from a family of proteins found in the most commonly consumed food grains. This process reduces the number of nutrients that are absorbed, leading to malnutrition. The National Foundation for Coeliac Awareness states that removing gluten reduces symptoms like constipation, gas, bloating, diarrhoea, cramping, etc.

    A person’s gut and the brain are connected through nerves. If there is indigestion or some issue that the person experiences in their stomach area, chances are that they also experience migraines. This scenario is quite common in those who experience gluten intolerance. So, by opting for a gluten-free diet, they experience fewer episodes of migraines and headaches.

    Higher Energy Levels

    Fatigue and sleepiness are some of the most common symptoms among people with gluten sensitivity. The reason could be that the intestines are likely not absorbing the required amount of minerals, nutrients and vitamins, causing malnutrition.

    Even low levels of malnutrition can cause episodes of unexplained fatigue, weakness and tiredness during the day. In such cases, eliminating gluten from the diet can do wonders as inflammation will begin reducing, and the body will acquire its required amount of nutrients to balance the energy level.

    Healthy Diet for the Conscious

    Most people who buy their food from a gluten free online shop develop a much better dietary habit than they had previously, as they would eliminate processed and junk food entirely. Gluten-free food means no intake of fried items, cookies, beer, chips, bread and cakes, which can be distressing at times.

    But once a person is used to it, the benefits outweigh the cravings as the body would not have to digest artificial flavours, preservatives, chemicals etc., present in processed food. A gluten-free diet involves a whole food diet that emphasises consuming foods close to their natural state.
